The all new 600 series takes some of the elements from its predecessor and combines them with some of Taylor’s latest developments. For a number of years Taylor have been working on ways to improve the acoustic and ‘plugged in’ tonality of its guitars which resulted in changes first seen on the 800 series. These have now migrated down the ranks and filtered into the all new 600 series. These include the all new Advance Performance Bracing and the New Expression System® 2.
Other features include ebony binding with ivoroid body purfling, abalone rosette edged in ebony and ivoroid, a new ivoroid fretboard inlay motif, inlaid ebony backstrap, hand-rubbed Brown Sugar back/sides with gloss 3.5 finish (full body) and striped ebony pickguard.
What to expect from a 600 Series Taylor Guitar?
It can be hard to find a mainstream manufacturer who offers an all-solid, figured Maple acoustic guitar with more than one or two body shapes on offer. Unlike the rest, Taylor offer a large range of body shapes in the 600 series. These include a Dreadnaught (610), Grand Concert (612), Grand Auditorium (614), Grand Symphony (616), Grand Orchestra (618), 12-String (656) and 2 Nylon strung guitars (612ce-N and 614ce-N). All models come with the option to have Taylor’s Expression System® 1, the latest Expression System® 2, or no pickup system at all. With all this taken into consideration, Taylor offer possible the most versatile range of Maple guitars on the market.
In the context of Taylor’s modern design heritage, the Grand Auditorium is Taylor’s flagship body style and the most popular shape. The next size up from the Grand Concert, it actually shares the same basic body dimensions as a Dreadnaught, but with modified contours that include a more tapered waist, enabling the guitar to fit more comfortably in your lap. Tonally, it lives in the sweet spot between a Dreadnaught – known for robust flatpicking and rhythmic strumming – and a Grand concert – designed with finger stylists in mind – to give players the best if both worlds and then some. The GA’s well-defined midrange helps maintain the balance and clarity of the GC, yet enough power on the top and bottom for strummers and flatpickers to let loose. It’s the most versatile performer and a smart choice for the gigging musician looking for one guitar to cover a diverse mix of music. Whether you’re a novice, weekend warrior, or a professional and want a guitar that can cover a lot of ground, you cant go wrong with the Grand Auditorium.
